Jean Luc Wilson (East Moline, Ill./United Township) turned in his second 30-point performance this season, but it wasn’t enough for the Carl Sandburg College men’s basketball team in a 91-78 loss at fifth-ranked South Suburban on Saturday.

Wilson finished 12 of 21 from the field, hit his only 3-point attempt and went 6 of 7 from the free-throw line while also leading the Chargers (1-6) with seven rebounds. He finished two points shy of matching his career-high, set earlier this season at Highland.

Sophomore Brock Bower-Preece (Mapleton, Ill./Illini Bluffs) added a career-best 14 points for the Chargers, who shot 52 percent (29 of 56) from the field and 55 percent (6 of 11) from long range.

Sandburg cut a 45-35 halftime deficit to 70-64 with 7:30 left before the Bulldogs scored eight straight to pull away.

The Bulldogs’ Deshawndre Washington led all players with 35 points. Chance Love had 22 points and nine boards for South Suburban.

UP NEXT FOR SANDBURG
The Chargers will begin the Region IV tournament next week, with the date and opponent yet to be determined.
